Private Health Insurance: Two-tier Health Care

The National Health Service (NHS) has been providing government-run health care coverage to the citizens of the UK since 1948. But at the same time, the UK also has a two tier healthcare system. What this means is that residents who have the financial means are free to purchase private health insurance in addition to their regular NHS coverage.

Why do people need both types of insurance? Well, most of the citizens who obtain private insurance are interested in certain medical procedures and services that are not covered by the NHS. For example, Xenical cura dimagrante is not covered by the government in the UK. Therefore, an individual who has the financial means may choose to purchase some additional insurance.

At present, about eight per cent of the population has some kind of private insurance. Ancillary coverage is often obtained through employers and it is used far less frequently than normal NHS coverage. That is because private insurance companies will often refuse to cover procedures that are already paid for by the NHS, such as childbirth or prenatal services. (more...)

The legalities of buying generic treatments online.

This is a question that crops up often in regard to buying online treatments for impotence or erectile dysfunction (ED). The internet is awash with websites selling online generic treatments and it is important to understand your legal position if you are tempted to go down that route. This article will provide answers to the legality question plus take a broader look at the merits or otherwise of buying generic Viagra online. The simple answer is that it is NOT illegal to buy generic treatments online. It is illegal to sell them, import them for sale or otherwise distribute them but it is not illegal to buy them. This is the legal situation in the United Kingdom. Other countries in Europe, the position may be different and we have received reports from Italy for example of people being tracked down by the authorities and exposed for buying generic Viagra online. Whilst no-one has ever been fined, the exposure from the attendant publicity is clearly designed to deter future offences. Is it legal to buy generic medications for impotence?

What is the difference between buying treatments for one’s own personal use and buying treatments with the intent to supply? There are plenty of instances recently in the UK of individuals being prosecuted by the Medicines Healthcare Regulatory Authority (MHRA), the body responsible for controlling the marketing and supply of prescription and other medication in the UK. The MHRA have pursued an aggressive policy not just in catching the offenders but also bringing them in front of the British courts. Typically, the quantities involved have been in the thousands of tablets rather than hundreds and so as a general rule, it is probably safe to assume that if you bought 60 tablets or less, this would be deemed to be for personal use.

One thing to bear in mind with buying generic treatments online is the customs issue. If customs intercept a package containing generic treatments, they will confiscate them and you will be none the wiser. Because the websites that sell generic treatments are making so much money, they generally have a no questions asked policy in regard to sending out replacement treatments so this is generally not a problem. The risk of customs contacting you in this event is difficult to quantify as their official policy on this is not known but it is safe to assume the chances of them doing so would be minimal based on manpower and time restraints/other priorities.

Smoking Causes impotence: why isn’t it printed on cigarette packets?

Impotence in men is frequently associated to health problems such as drug dependency, high blood pressure, diabetes and excessive cholesterol in the blood, but it is rarely highlighted that ED can be caused by tobacco and other ingredients contained in cigarettes despite clinical data which solidly confirms the correlation between smoking and dysfonction érectile entre les hommes âgés de 30 et 40

During sexual activity blood pressure tends to flow in larger quantities in the arteries in and around the penis, the veins compress to stop the flow of blood out of the penis resulting in an erection. Cigarette smoke prevents the veins from compressing, and subsequently the male smoker struggles to gain and maintain an erection strong enough for sexual activity.

Smoking also damages the arteries by leaving residual deposits, which narrow the blood vessels and decrease the amount of blood able to flow through creating a state of low pressure; this process, together with the quick contraction of the penile tissues caused by nicotine acting on the brain receptors results in a two-fold reaction which is detrimental to the quality and strength of the erection. Cigarettes not only compromise a man’s erection, but can also reduce the volume of seminal fluid ejaculated, as well as damaging its quality which could lead to infertility. (more...)

Extract of chilli peppers to combat obesity

The extract of tiny chilli peppers could help to effectively combat weight issues in overweight and obese people. A substance found in chilli peppers is capable of increasing metabolism and combatting excess body fat better than popular pharmacy slimming tablets and diets .

A study carried out in Japan, surprisingly given the ingredient rarely features in Japanese cooking, suggests that the extract of chillis contains an active ingredient capable of effectively combatting excess weight.

The substance, believed to increase metabolism, is referred to as Dihydrocapsiate (DHC) and can be found in a particular type of chilli peppers, the CH-19 sweet. The information has been verified in a press release by the well know Japanese food group, Ajinomoto Group Tokyo. (more...)

More and more young women affected by STIs

In 10 years, cases of chlamydia have doubled and the trend of sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) is unfortunately continually growing. 60% of all cases involve women, in particular women over 55. In the over 50s this rise has been attributed greater promiscuity and the availability of Potenzstärkende Mittel . These are just some of the data of the first report of the European Centre for Diseases Control (ECDC) presented a few days ago, and information which should make us stop and take stock of the situation. In Europe there are about 334,000 reported cases of chlamydia alone, an infection that if left untreated can have very serious complications.

In most cases chlamydia presents no symptoms, but this silent disease can quickly spread through the body. If chlamydia reaches the fallopian tubes it can cause pelvic inflammation and even infertility. Whilst cases of chlamydia have continued to rise, the data collected shows a slight decrease in cases of gonorrhoea and syphilis. Gonorrhoea and syphilis are diseases that are more common in men. Unfortunately, as experts explain, the ratio of the ECDC does not take into account all venereal diseases, for example genital warts and herpes, which are also on the rise.

The weapons available to combat these diseases mainly affect younger people (between 15 and 24) exist. The first step is prevention, in particular in summer and on holiday, when it is easier to have the occasional sexual fling. During the holiday period experts strongly advise using a condom to protect from unwanted pregnancies and above all sexually transmitted diseases such as chlamydia, as well as AIDS and hepatitis!
